Volunteering

Volunteering

We all live busy lives and it can be hard to find the time to volunteer. Still, the benefits can be fulfilling to you, your family, and your community. Finding the right program can lead to new friends, help you learn a new skill, look good on your resume, reduce stress, and help connect you with the community.  Giving to others is good for the mind and soul.

Why Volunteer

Providing help to people or a community in need can give you a sense of purpose. Volunteering doesn't mean that you have to give up a big part of your time or has to be long term. You can give in simple ways such as donating food. A well-known benefit of volunteering is the connection you make with others volunteering and those you are helping. Connecting with other people not only helps you but them as well. Everyone can use a friend and deserves kindness. Helping with simple tasks can make a huge difference in the lives of people, animals, and the community as a whole. Volunteering is a great way to meet people, especially if you're new to the area. This works for both adults and children. It gives children a chance to understand the meaning of helping others and gives them the confidence to interact with others if they are shy. Volunteering as a family is not a bad thing either. It's a way to make your family strong and help learn more about each other.
Volunteering is a great way to explore your interests and passions. Doing volunteer work can help you relax and escape from your regular work routine. It offers you motivation, fire up your creative side which can trickle into your personal life. Volunteering isn’t all about serving food. It can include helping out at a children's camp, reading to a group at the local library, walking dogs, Lions Club, national parks, places of worship, or getting dirty at the community garden. There is something for everyone.

Getting Started

The best way to get started is to ask yourself a few questions.

  • Do I want to try something new?
  • Do I want to share something I’m good at?
  • Is there a way I can improve my neighborhood?
  • What are my interests?
  • Do I want to work with adults or children?
  • How much time can I commit?
  • What causes are important to me?

Asking and knowing the answers to these questions is a great way to find an opportunity to volunteer and the best place you can make a difference.

There is an Opportunity

Giving in even simple ways can help those in need and improve your happiness and the lives of others. There is an opportunity in your community.
