Join a Moms Group

As a parent, there is the pressure of wanting to get everything right. And at times we can even feel like we are the only one going through this. But we are not! No doubt being a parent can be very stressful, intimidating, and isolating. Finding a support system can make everything seem less overwhelming. Now, call it what you will, girl talk, mothers group, or mom club, there are benefits to joining a support network that you can relate to. Joining a mothers group is not just about having coffee and snacks, you can physically and mentally recharge by sharing your stories, advice, concerns, or troubles.

How a Mothers Group Can Help

Joining a mom’s group gives you the opportunity to get out and about and ready to engage in conversation with other women in a relaxed atmosphere. Here are a few reasons you should consider joining a group.

Make New Friends
We could all benefit from meeting new people. The best part about a mom’s group is you meet like-minded women with similar lives of breastfeeding, dirty diapers, and sleep deprivation. And let's face it, mom friends are different than friends who don’t have children. You know with mom friends, you can talk to them about the many parts of motherhood and they will understand.

Real Questions, Real Answers
You can ask questions in “real life.” There’s nothing better than getting an answer from a person face-to-face rather than waiting for a response on social media.

Hand Me Downs and Reviews
With so many moms in the group, you are bound to get your hands on some hand me downs or baby gear. Babies grow like weeds, so what better way to get rid of old clothing and items. Another great thing is getting reviews from moms who actually used and tried baby gear.

Future Babysitters
We are here to help each other out, so what better way than offering to sit other mothers children. If you get to know other mothers well enough, you might consider setting up a sitter swap. You can even set up a weekly schedule allowing one mother to have a date night, a spa day, or have a day to run a few errands.

A Mom Group with Support

We all need human connection, especially mothers. Joining a mom group can give you that time you need to connect to other mothers dealing with similar situations and even have a little “girl time.” The opportunity to meet like-minded people is easier than you think. The Open Door offers a time to gather with other mothers to share ideas about parenting, school success, self-care, careers, health/safety, and relationships. Moms Life Group is an environment for women to encourage and strengthen each other. Contact The Open Door at 254-442-3000 or visit www.supportopendoor.org for more information about the group or to register.
