The Importance of Self-Care
The Importance of Self-Care
Call it what you will, "me-time” or “self-care,” it’s safe to say that we could all benefit from it. The time you take for your self is essential to your health, and most of us don’t do it enough. It’s easy to get sidetracked, there is always something else that needs to get done, or we fulfill someone else needs. But when we think of ‘me-time,’ we associate it with spending money in some form. A trip to the salon, spa day, nail salon, or lunch with girlfriends. I’ll be the first o admit that I love getting a manicure, but there are times when I don’t have the funds to get one. So, sometimes, that means no me-time.It’s important to remember that you don’t have to spend money to recharge. As a mom, I feel that taking time to relax and recharge makes me a more present (pleasant) parent. Below are a few ways for you to have your me-time, some that are free and cost some money.
Finding "Me-Time"
We all need a break from our daily demands. We also need to see self-care as a necessity and not as self-indulgence. Replenishing your mind and soal is as important as exercising. Check out these ideas and make them count.Create Something- Get creative! Bake something, draw, take up knitting, or color in one of those color by number for adults book. Do it just for fun, don’t take yourself seriously. Even writing in a journal or writing poetry is doing something creative.
Take a Bubble Bath- Put some time into giving yourself a luxurious experience. Light some candles, put on some relaxing music, and pour a glass of wine.
Go to a Movie, By Yourself- Trust me, there is nothing wrong or weird about going to see a movie alone. You get to pick the movie, chose the snacks and you don’t have to share, and you get to pick where you sit.
Take a Walk in the Neighborhood/Town- Taking a walk alone can help you clear your head. It can help you reconnect with yourself and nature. Doing a little window shopping can also help you reset and can allow you to meet new people or see something new you didn’t know was there.
Get a Massage- I will say that getting a massage will change everything. I feel so great and rejuvenated after an appointment. Even a 30-minute chair massage can do you right.
